Dear Margie Received your letter of the 26th day before yesterday, but I've been so busy. I just couldn't find time to answer. Will try to dash off a few lines before I go to work this morning. Can you imagine me writing letters at 6.15 A.M.? We got some new men in the night before last. What a lunch! They came from Camp Barkley, Texas. Most of them were to be discharged because of some disability. They're in a heck of a shape. The Colonel wants to go ahead and discharge them all. If he does, will be in work up to my neck! What a life! No rest for the wicked they say. I must be pretty wicked. I don't mind too much, because when I'm busy, the time goes fast.

I guess Bill is home on furlough now. Got a letter from Mother saying that he wired for some money so he could come home. I would of liked to have been home at the same time, but all furloughs have been canceled, thus I won't get mine until November sometime. Bill talks like he might be shipped out. Sure hope he doesn't, but I guess we'll have to wait & see. Say, sounds like you had a real party the other night. Good for you! No, I don't believe I would have liked to have been there. After all, what could I do with so many "gals" around. I'm just a bashful little boy. Ha! Ha! Played ball last night downtown. Our company played one of the other companies under the lights. I caught, as usual. Had a good time, but we got beat. We don't get enough practice

Was trying to steal second and slid into the man.My watch flew off & I thought sure he stepped on it. Its still running this morning but the strap is broken. I was thinking of getting another anyhow. They've got some pretty nice ones at the P-X. I also came back with the usual banged up finger because I get one every time we play. But then, its all in the game.
Got a letter yesterday from one of the fellows I used to run around with.He just got his lieutenants commision. So did 4 other fellows I ran around with. They're pretty lucky.
If I stay in the Army long enough I may get one too. Can't never tell you know.

Well Margie, guess that's all I know for now. How's everything back there in KY? Are you still working in Livey? Got to go to work, so I'll sign off for now. Tell your folks I said "Hello" & be good. Write when you can.
Your Cousin, Joe
